Healing With Marjoram

For me it will take a "few more"!

Today we are going to explore the wonders of Marjoram. Marjoram is a garden herb that has remained a culinary favorite for thousands of years; it has wide ranging therapeutic properties as well.

It is a versatile healing herb and can be used for anything from sore throats to easing digestion. So get settled with that, second or third (maybe a fourth?) cup of coffee and read on my pretties!

Healing With Marjoram





The warm and penetrating aroma of Marjoram is both relaxing and restorative. its peppery fragrance has camphorous undertones  that evaporate to leave a soft, sweet scent. It can also be used for a wide range of healing.

It is an excellent massage oil for stiff and tired muscles. It can be used as a sedative to promote restful sleep, and its relaxing action provides a remedy for headaches.

Marjoram aids digestion by strengthening hate muscles of the digestive tract. It relieves intestinal spasms, heartburn and flatulence. Its application in an abdominal massage eases cramps and it is valuable for treating the symptoms of PMS.

Marjoram is even reputed to quell sexual desire and deter unwanted advances  from admirers.



Active Ingredients Of Marjoram Oil



Monoterpenols~The herb is rich in these alcohols, including Borneol and Terpinol. Monoterpenols  contribute to Marjorams oil's warming action. Monoterpenols are also effective agents against infection and have an uplifting and balancing Acton on the body.



Ketones~Traces of certain Ketones give Marjoram its camphorous undertones. It has calming warming properties and its low concentration means the diluted oil is safe to use on the skin.



Monoterpenes~these active ingredients have analgesic, expectorant and calming properties.



Sequisterpenes~These components have the same action as Monoterpenes.




Using Marjoram Oil



Marjoram For That Monthly Guest




Painful Menstrual Cramps~Soak a cloth in the following and apply to your stomach, place a hot water bottle on top of the compress to help retain its heat:
  • 3 drops Marjoram
  • 2 drops Clary Sage
  • Bowl of hot water






Mood Swings~Balance your mood swings and feelings of agitation associated with PMS with a full body massage:
  • 4 drops Marjoram
  • 4 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Rose
  • 2 tbsp Sweet Almond



For Stiff Muscles



Before Your Workout~Relax cold muscles with a brisk rub:
  • 4 drops Marjoram
  • 3 drops of Basil
  • 3 drops Pine
  • 1 tbsp Grapeseed





Relieve Muscular Aches~Massage affected area with:
  • 5 drops Marjoram
  • 4 drops Ginger
  • 3 drops Vetivert
  • 2 tbsp Sweet Almond




Soothe The Mind

Ease anxiety and tension with Marjorams"s sedative action. Its calming effect will aid relaxation and dispel tension headaches and insomnia.




Nervous Tension Headaches~Massage the following into he forehead, neck and shoulders with:
  • 4 drops Marjoram
  • 2 drops Lavender
  • 2 drops Peppermint
  • 1 tbsp Sweet Almond



Insomnia~Massage the soles of your feet each night with:
  • 2 drops Marjoram
  • 2 drops Lavender
  • 1 tbsp Grapeseed
