You know what is worse than a lump of coal in your stocking? A dang wart you cannot seem to get rid of and the expensive treatments that try. Let's try some herbal remedies for that instead, what'ya say?

Herbal Remedies For Treating Warts



Warts are small growths made up of dead skin cells that are caused by a virus. They are not dangerous to your health unless they darken or change shape, in which case you should consult your doctor immediately.

Warts are contagious and spread easily in damp conditions, so take care not to share a towel or washcloth. When warts are found on the soles of your feet they are called verrucas, which can be incredibly painful and are easily spread in bathrooms and swimming areas.

Fortunately, there are a number of natural herbal treatments you can use to tackle warts, form antiviral action of echinacea and garlic to the skin-cleansing action of burdock and lemon.




The Natural Method Of Treating Warts




An old folk remedy for a wart was to rub it with a freshly cut elder twig and then bury the twig in the garden. Another folk remedy involves rubbing the wart with a slice of potato and burying the potato near a tree during the Full Moon.

When treating warts you should keep the area clean and dry - easily achieved with a fresh lemon and take the homeopathic remedy Thuja in tablet form in a 30 centisimals potency while you are using herbal tinctures and teas. These therapies will help your body build up a Resistance to the  virus.

When your immune system is running low the virus is likely to return, so take steps to keep your immune system functioning well, by eating healthily and remembering to get enough sleep.



Herbs For Warts




Echenacea~The roots and rhizomes of the "cone flower", one of the names for this medicinal plant, are used to treat a variety of different ailments. Its main action is to boost the immune system so take it as a tincture or tea to help your body defend itself from the virus that is responsible for causing warts.










Dandelion~You may view dandelions as a nuisance weed because they spread very fast, but they are very useful as an herbal remedy. You can drink dandelion coffee, which is made from the roots of the plant, brewed as you would with ground coffee.

To apply directly to the wart, break off a stalk of dandelion and cover the affected area with the white sap.







Garlic~Garlic has many uses, particularly as a natural antibiotic and antiviral herb. You can include garlic in your diet to help boost your immune system - take some parsley tablets or use raw parsley in your cooking to counteract the effects of garlic breath.

You can also cut a clove of garlic so the the juice is exposed and rub it directly onto the affected area.










Lemon~Lemon is a natural cleanser and is useful for helping your body to release toxins. Drink lemon juice for clear skin and bright eyes and apply the juice of a fresh lemon directly to warts or verrucas.

You can include lemon juice and rind in your cooking to help boost your immune system.






Thuja~Thuja is made from the twigs and leaves of the white cedar tree and is called "to" by the Chinese, who use the herb extensively for healing . It is used as a homeopathic medicine and herbal tincture for the treatment of warts and verrucas and for alleviating reactions to immunizations and vaccinations.

Take as a homeopathic remedy or buy the tincture and take 3 drops in water twice daily.









Burdock~Burdock is a cleansing herb and is useful for skin conditions, warts and verrucas, and as a digestive aid. The roots, leaves and seeds are all used in herbal remedies.

You can make a tea by boiling a tsp. of the seeds in  a cup of hot water for 10 minutes.

Once the tea has finished brewing, strain and then drink.



Redclover And Burdock Tea


The flowers found in redclover were used in Ancient Greece by Hippocrates for their healing powers. They are especially powerful when combined with burdock to treat all kinds of skin infections.

To prepare this healthy redclover and burdock tea, which will keep you from succumbing to warts you need:
  • 2 tsp. Redclover Flowers
  • 2 tsp. Burdock Leaves
  • 2 c. Hot Water
  • Honey

1. Bring the water to a boil and add the redclover and burdock with the water to your cup.

2. Let the tea brew for 15 min.

3. Sweeten with the honey and drink three times daily until warts are gone.



Well there you have it. I have not used this particular remedy as I have no warts, but I would love to hear if someone tries this and how well it worked!
